Quick Details
Upon your arrival at the mystic town of San Juan Chamula, a local guide explains to you the history of the area, and you visit the church of San Juan Bautista, where you’re able to see the temple. Prepare to be surprised at its beautiful and simple inside decoration, as well as with its stunning exterior façades. Once you’re there, you get a glimpse of the artistic beauty of the insides of the church and its shrines, with catholic figures dressed as the native costumes dictate.
Next, you’re taken to the indigenous community of Zinacantan, where you visit San Lorenzo’s church, in addition to seeing the works of the local women who use the waist loom to create magnificent textile pieces, such as huipiles (ponchos), tablecloths, quilts, and pillow cushions.
You also visit the house of a family with whom you taste the local liqueurs as you watch them working on the waist loom. You have plenty of time to walk around the local crafts markets and take a look around the well-preserved churches.
