About the tour
During this tour, we will visit the Temple of Guadalupe, popularly known as "La Villa" or Basilica of Guadalupe. It was built in the 17th century by the architect Pedro de Arrieta and receives some 20 million pilgrims annually. The Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico is not only a religious symbol, it is also part of the Mexican identity. In all Mexican homes and many others in Latin America, the Virgin of Guadalupe is worshiped. With her national holiday on December 12, she receives great importance for considering her four appearances to the Chichimeca indigenous Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin on the Tepeyac Hill, and on one occasion to Juan Bernardino, Juan Diego's uncle.
Due to this influence on Mexican culture, visiting the Basilica of Guadalupe is essential, whether you are a believer or not. In addition, these stories are collected in documents throughout the world, from historical documents in the Vatican to different writings by other religious places. Her presence in Mexico is such that numerous audiovisual works have been dedicated in her name.
On this trip, you will be able to admire both, the current and the old basilica, and also climb Cerro Tepeyac, where the miracle of fresh flowers and the first apparition of Santa María de Guadalupe are remembered. Later, you will visit the Basilica Museum, located in the old convent of the Capuchins, where you will see an important collection of Baroque Art, made up of an impressive amount of cultural assets. The work of this place is focused on conserving, studying, and disseminating nearly 4000 cultural assets protected by the Distinguished and National Basilica of Guadalupe.
After the guided visit around all the mentioned places, you will have free time to explore the place a bit deeper or attend mass. Don't miss the opportunity to live this exciting experience full of culture and tradition!
