About the tour

The Reina Sofía Museum was officially inaugurated on September 10, 1992, and is named after Queen Sofía of Spain. It is primarily dedicated to modern and contemporary Spanish art and houses outstanding collections of works by Spain’s three most celebrated 20th-century artists: Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Joan Miró. The museum’s most famous masterpiece is Picasso’s iconic painting Guernica. Your guide will introduce you to the major artistic movements of 20th-century Spain, from Cubism and Surrealism to Abstraction and Modernism, while highlighting some of the museum’s most important works and their historical significance. This museum is housed in an elegant former hospital building, whose vaulted corridors provide a unique setting for discovering the work of some of Spain’s finest painters and sculptors. In addition to its exceptional permanent collection, the museum regularly hosts international temporary exhibitions, making it one of the world’s leading museums of modern and contemporary art.

Today, the Reina Sofía Museum houses thousands of works of art. Explore its galleries alongside your guide and learn about the techniques, inspirations, and stories behind some of the most influential artistic creations of the 20th century. Book this tour to gain expert insight into Spain’s most important modern artworks, guided by a professional who brings each masterpiece to life. Skip the ticket lines and enjoy a deeper understanding of one of Madrid’s most important cultural institutions. This tour is one of the best ways to experience the Reina Sofía Museum in depth and fully appreciate its historical and artistic context.
