About the tour
The day begins with an independent departure from Tokyo Station to Kanazawa, kicking off a journey full of culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes. The first stop is the picturesque village of Shirakawago, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri houses with steep thatched roofs shaped like praying hands, this charming destination was designed to withstand heavy snowfall. Upon arrival, visitors can enjoy lunch on their own and wander the tranquil streets, admiring the historic architecture, artisan workshops, and the serene atmosphere that feels frozen in time.
Next, the journey continues to Kenrokuen, considered one of Japan’s most beautiful gardens and a true oasis of art and nature. Its ponds reflecting trees and flowers, elegant bridges, stone lanterns, and carefully designed pathways create an atmosphere of harmony and tranquility, offering a unique experience in any season.
Later, the itinerary heads to the historic districts of Nishi Chaya or Nagamachi, depending on the day, where Kanazawa’s rich cultural heritage comes to life. Nishi Chaya, with its traditional teahouses, transports visitors to the Edo period, while Nagamachi, the former samurai district, captivates with cobblestone streets and residences that retain the elegance of centuries past.
The day concludes with a return to Kanazawa Station to board the train back to Tokyo, after a full day of discoveries that combine dreamlike landscapes, living history, and the cultural essence of the Hokuriku region. This tour offers a comprehensive and unforgettable experience, leaving a lasting impression of traditional Japan and its harmonious connection with nature.
