About the tour

Visit two of the most important historical landmarks located just outside Madrid. You will depart at midday from our meeting point in central Madrid and travel first to the Monastery of El Escorial. There, you will explore the royal palace that once served as a residence of the Spanish Royal Family, the basilica, which houses the Royal Pantheon and the tombs of many Spanish monarchs, and the monastery itself, originally founded by the Order of Saint Jerome and currently occupied by the Order of Saint Augustine. The Monastery of El Escorial is considered one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Spain and Europe.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the Friars' Garden, which reflects King Philip II's vision of gardening by combining beauty, order, and agricultural cultivation. Throughout the visit, your professional guide will explain the history, symbolism, and significance of this extraordinary monument.

Afterwards, the tour continues to the Valley of the Fallen (Valle de los Caídos), a monumental complex built between 1940 and 1958. Here, you will discover the history behind one of Spain's most significant and debated historical sites. The complex is dominated by one of the tallest crosses in the world and offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. This visit provides a unique opportunity to learn about an important chapter of Spain's modern history while exploring an impressive architectural and cultural landmark.
