Leaving Mérida, we go to Chichen Itza, which in Mayan means “mouth of the water sorcerers well.” It is an enigmatic city and ceremonial center of great influence to the Maya people. With its incredible archaeological remains and its ancient history, Chichen Itza is a place you cannot miss! You will be able to admire the perfection of “El Castillo,” which for its mathematical, astronomical, calendrical, and religious calculations make this construction the masterpiece of the Maya culture.
Visit the largest field where the pre-Hispanic ballgame was held; an ancient Maya astronomical observatory known as El Caracol; and the Temple of the Warriors, surrounded by “the thousand columns.” You will have free time to visit some other areas and visit this unique archeological site in the Maya world, which is protected by UNESCO.
